‘Needs & Desires’ is an ongoing participatory project whereby participants are invited to answer the questions ‘What do you need?’ and ‘What do you desire?’.

 Responses were gathered from mothers and caregivers during the ‘Whose Story is it?’ Spilt Milk Gallery exhibition at the Edinburgh Palette, 6th—26th March 2022.

My intention was to provide mothers and caregivers a space to pause and reflect after the challenges of the past few years on what they want and dream of, now and for the future. I also wanted to raise awareness of the societal pressure put on mothers to be the ‘perfect mother’ and ignore their own needs, often leading to burn out and affecting  their mental health.

Throughout the exhibition answers were taped to the gallery wall to create an evolving text installation. Participants  included first time mums, mums with new born babies mums with children left home, young mums, disabled mums and even grandmothers.
